Sophie Burt and Lizzie Stewart discuss issues of race and migration in German film with Jo Gilbert.
About the Presenters
Sophie Burt is a PhD student at the University of Oxford. She researches gender and power in German cinema since 1998.
Sophie studied German and French as an undergraduate at Durham University before taking a Master’s degree in German at the University of Oxford. In 2013 she began her PhD in German.
Joanna Gilbert is a PhD student at the University of Leeds. She is currently researching Alexander Kluge’s films and his depiction of gender. Joanna studied German and History at Undergraduate level at the University of Sheffield, before completing her MA in World Cinemas at the University of Leeds.
Lizzie Stewart is a PhD student and tutor in German at the University of Edinburgh. She researches theatre and migration in contemporary Germany, looking at when, why, and how plays which were written by Turkish-German playwrights have been performed.
Lizzie originally studied German and Russian as an undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh. In 2010 she also completed her Masters degree at Edinburgh in European Theatre and she began work on her PhD there in 2011.
